WHO WE ARE:
The staff of CulturalRome is exclusively composed of native official licensed guides that gained a Ph. D. in Art History, Archaeology and Architecture who dedicated their life to the deep knowledge of Rome and Italian History and Arts. Some are also specifically trained to manage the visually impaired and motorial handicaps.
We think that Italy and Rome in particular are such important, fascinating and historically rich areas that only well trained native local guides can introduce you to its complexity. Of course just natives can be so familiar with such a background: you may learn notions from books, but live them everyday since your birth is a different experience! Even so, our company offers only licensed professionals with the highest academical status in order to offer the best in-depht information to clients.
WHO WE ARE NOT:
Story-tellers, entertainers, babysitters, gladiators. You can find many on internet or by the Colosseum but it’s not us!
WHAT’S OUR GOAL:
CulturalRome offers Our aim is to illustrate key personalities, artistic movements, historical facts answering your questions with dedication and patience because the goal of our tour is sharing information, not just deliver notions!
We do not just point at monuments, but we illustrate the reason and function of their being, not simply exalting a few extraordinary artists and patrons but also showing the many signs of life of innumerable ordinary people that built Rome as well.
Our tours are intended to use your time and money at their best offering exactly what you can see in a specific amount of time: our mission is to provide the best and most reasonable approach to the city enjoying it, not just surviving it!
WHAT IS A “DISCERNING” APPROACH TO THE CITY?
Tourists invest money and energy in their trips and deserve due respect and help: our staff members are professionals but also tourists themselves and will never let you be cheated or mistreated. As everywhere you might have people trying to take advantage of you, or simply life standards might be different from yours; offering advice and information will save money, time and good mood to both tourist and guides. Always remember this: Rome has 3.000.000 residents and 25.000 visitors per day just at the Vatican Museum, so forget any tempting offer of “exclusive” or “for your eyes only” or “skipping the line” tours. You might waste a lot of money just to be surrounded by more “special” tourists like you. The quality of a tour is given by information, not by rush!
WHY CHOOSING NATIVE, LICENSED, LEGAL GUIDES? WHAT TAXES HAVE TO DO WITH FAIR TOURS?
According to italian laws, only licensed guides are allowed to offer tours. Licensed guides must comply with very high cultural standards and pass several hard exams to check their deep knowledge of arts, history, enviroment and foreign language from the Stone Age to present days as required by laws.
They are legally responsible for their work, must pay taxes and must constantly show a blue identity badge released by italian and Vatican authorities.
Many offer top-quality, exclusive, academical “seminars” led by scholars: anway they’re often young foreign students spending a summer in Italy, or “docents” researching specific subjects but ignoring everything else out of their field and, sadly, speaking a broken italian or no italian at all. Some companies are sensitive to the impact of mass tourism and boast to share with you their love for Italy and to finance restorations of local heritage: unfortunately they also employ illegal guides, taking advantage of local resources but not paying due taxes, and that’s extremely unfair.
So remember: a blue license badge is a legal warranty and if your guide doesn’t have one, you’d better wonder why…!
